Simple Marketing Habits That Transform Your Business Growth

When it comes to marketing our small businesses – whether we’re sharing digital or physical offerings, showcasing who we are, or connecting with our online communities – what works for one person might not work for another. It’s easy to look around at what others are doing and feel like we should be doing the same too. But in my own experience, trying to follow someone else’s approach has often left my marketing feeling inauthentic and disconnected from who I am. What could be fun and straightforward ends up feeling exhausting!

Time plays a big role in what we can realistically get done each day. We all have different responsibilities, places to be, and other work that needs our attention. And if you’re like me and want marketing to feel simple, gentle, and enjoyable – without heading toward burnout – then a slower, more aligned and personal approach is sometimes just what’s needed. Which is why I’m sharing five small and simple marketing habits that can make a big difference.

Even the smallest of steps, when done consistently, can lead to beautiful growth.

Post consistently

I think when we hear the phrase ‘post consistently’, it can feel a bit overwhelming, like we suddenly have to come up with something to share every single day. But don’t worry, I’m not here to tell you that daily posting is a must! Consistency can be simple. Even just two or three posts a week, shared regularly to your social media, can be really effective and help you stay connected without the pressure. Think quality and not quantity.

A few tips are to choose a posting rhythm that feels manageable and good for you. Then, think about a few small goals you’d love to work toward with your marketing. Consider the types of posts you enjoy creating and the platforms that feel right for you – without spreading yourself too thin.

Your online community appreciates knowing that you’re present, and you never know, one simple post might be exactly what someone needed to see that day. It’s worth gently reflecting on how people will discover or connect with you if you’re not showing up and sharing your work.

Repurpose and reshare content

Repurposing content is a lovely way to stay ahead with your posts and ease the pressure of figuring out what to share next. It also helps keep your older content fresh and relevant. For example, one blog post can be wonderfully transformed into an Instagram post, a carousel, a reel, and even an email for your mailing list. It’s a wonderful way to keep your content well topped up, so you always have something to draw from.

…and repurposing isn’t just for long-form content, you can do it with shorter posts too. I really enjoy revisiting past social media posts and turning them into a blog post, a newsletter, or even more content to share on social media!

I had lots of fun helping a lovely client explore how just one of their Instagram posts could be transformed into lots of fresh, new pieces of content.

When it comes to resharing your existing content on social media, there’s definitely no need to hesitate. A helpful thing to keep in mind is that not everyone will have seen it the first time around – and even if they did, sharing it again gives them a chance to reconnect with it, especially if it was something they enjoyed or resonated with.

I’ve even looked back at older Instagram posts from a year or so ago and reshared them. Chances are, people who are new to my page haven’t seen them before.

Nurture your community

You might be wondering how this connects to your marketing. The truth is, taking the time to nurture your community by engaging and interacting with them is a really valuable part of growing your online presence. I often notice that many people tend to overlook this, which is a shame, because deep down, we all understand how important it is to have others engaging with what we share.

A great way to nurture your community is by showing up with small, thoughtful actions. Like and comment on others’ posts, share content you enjoy, and take a moment to respond to comments and messages. A kind word can go a long way. Support others in the same way you’d love to be supported… It builds connection and helps everyone grow together.

Share behind-the-scenes content

I really believe behind-the-scenes content is some of the best to share, whether it’s a story, a photo, or a quick post on any platform. But it’s also easy to forget about as we go through our day.

The good news is, it doesn’t take much, literally just a quick photo or short video with a little context can go a long way. It’s a great way to show what you’re working on, highlight your services, and give people (especially the curious ones like me!) a peek into how you do what you do.

For example, you could share a photo and a quick note about a blog post you’re writing or an email you’re sending out… along with a reminder to subscribe. Or, if you’re working with a client, you could give a small glimpse into that (without revealing too much). It’s a great way to show what your day looks like, highlight your work, and gently encourage people to learn more or get in touch if they’re interested in working with you.

Create a monthly email

Sending a monthly email is a lovely way to stay connected with people outside of social media, especially for those who aren’t active on certain platforms. It’s also a gentle reminder that there are other ways to share and connect.

It doesn’t have to feel like a big commitment either. While I’ve called it a “monthly” email, you could send one weekly, fortnightly, or just whenever it feels right. It’s a great space to share what you’re working on, what you offer, any news or updates, tips, advice, and even things like what you’re reading or what’s been inspiring you lately. It’s a mix of connection, catch-up, and invitation.

I use Substack for my mailing list (you can read more about why I made the switch here), but there are plenty of other options too, like Flodesk, Mailchimp, and more.

I’d love to know…what’s one simple marketing habit that’s made a big impact for you?
