I think autumn may just be my most favourite season for books! And this year in particular, there seems to be an abundance of cosy autumnal themed books being released.

I’ve been enjoying journeying through the year with books that beautifully compliment each season and provide a lovely companion to begin each one.

I’m very much looking forward to reading a mixture of nature writing, memoir, fiction, lifestyle, art, seasonal comfort and cooking.

Here’s what I’m reading this autumn…

Autumn: The story of a season by Kate Mosse

I’ve been patiently (but eagerly) waiting for this book to come out ever since I read Winter by Val McDermid and Spring by Michael Morpurgo - all part of a seasonal series (I’m really hoping Summer by Bernardine Evaristo will be out next year).

I’ve never actually read anything by Kate Mosse before… I know, I know! So I’m actually really looking forward to reading my first Kate Mosse book and it being a seasonal/nature memoir.

…Just flicking through, an L.M. Montgomery quote has caught my eye. I just love a author who quotes Montgomery!

Not only is the cover stunningly beautiful, but inside there’s lovely illustrations throughout, which is always a wonderful bonus.

I also really like how these books are a lovely and cosy easy read.

The Cosy Commonplace Book by Miranda Mills

I absolutely adore Miranda’s first book, The Country Commonplace Book, and this one is equally as magical (I’ve already had a little flick through).

This book, like Miranda’s first one, is filled full of the most loveliest literary quotations, bookish lists, poems, recipes, beautiful illustrations and lots more, that Miranda has thoughtfully collected and curated.

A perfect cosy read for celebrating Cosy Season.

Tales from the Cafe by Toshikazu Kawaguchi

I really loved and enjoyed Before the Coffee Gets Cold soooo much! Tales from the Cafe is the second book in the series (there’s currently 6 and I’ve just discovered that there’s going to be a 7th!).

I popped into Waterstones wondering what autumnal themed books they might have. I spotted a couple of books from this series and was very happy to find book number 2.

I mean, it’s not strictly set in autumn, but the cover gave me lovely autumnal vibes and as I flicked through the pages, I happily discovered that part of the book is actually set in autumn.

I was debating whether to purchase the next one on my Kindle, but they’re just such beautiful additions to the bookshelf. My husband, David, has a running joke that I seem to only buy books if there’s a cat on the cover - which is kinda true!

Falling for You by Heidi Swain

I’ve been a big fan of Heidi Swain for a long time… since 2017 in fact! I have all 22 of Heidi’s books (23 with Falling for You)

Last year, Heidi brought out her first autumnal themed book called All Wrapped Up, which was the perfect autumnal romance to cosy up to. This week (can you tell I’m counting down the days?), Heidi’s next autumnal book, Falling for You is out in paperback.

A new beginning, a return to Nightingale Square, a meet up with old friends and a heartwarming romance set in autumn… I’m so excited!

Falling into Autumn by Angela Harding

I’ve been loving collecting Angela Harding’s little seasonal books (there’s one for each season). Not only are they filled with Angela’s stunning art, but also her observations and reflections from throughout the seasons.

These little books are a beautiful celebration of nature and wildlife. They’re inspiring, filled full of little joys and are the perfect seasonal companion.

I’m really looking forward to slowly reading Falling into Autumn.

Autumn by Sam Nixon

Because a cookbook is still a book, after all!

I’d been excitedly waiting for our copy of Autumn to arrive in our local Waterstones ever since Sam announced it.

I really enjoy Sam’s content over on Instagram. Who remembers him on Pop Idol? I was also a big Sam & Mark fan back in the day!

I love that he’s created a cookbook just for autumn, with the most delicious looking recipes too (there’s lots of my favourite cosy comfort foods - and I really appreciate there’s a section just for roast dinners and a recipe for Yorkshire puddings!).

Ellie Hooi has beautifully done the illustrations that feature on the cover and throughout.

Each recipe begins with a little story, which is a lovely special touch. Sam also shares more about his journey of cooking and how this book came to be. It’s also filled with the most wonderful autumnal photos.
