Bring Spring Energy into Your Marketing

Did you know that nature offers us endless wisdom for our marketing? Yep, you definitely heard me right!

There’s actually a lot we can learn from nature. While it might seem a million miles apart from digital marketing, I love how it can inspire us to take a slower, simpler and so much more lovelier approach that feels wonderfully sustainable, to our marketing and I’m going to show you how!

I love how spring signifies hope, new beginnings, fresh opportunities, and the excitement of new ventures; a time for preparation and planning, planting seeds and moving forward. Just as new growth awakens and emerges from the sleepy earth, rejuvenated, and ready to bloom and flourish, and share all that it offers to buzzing bees, fluttering butterflies and insects of every kind, it can bring us so much joy and encouragement along the way. This is the beautiful spring energy that I want us to take inspiration from.

Everything is made new in the spring. Springs themselves are always so new, too. No spring is ever just like any other spring. It always has something of its own to be its peculiar sweetness.
— - L.M. Montgomery, Anne of the Island

When I think of spring, a few other words that come to mind are renewal, refresh, transform, light and warmth… A great place to start is to reflect on what this current season of spring means to you? How can these words then inspire the steps you take?

For me, following a seasonal rhythm helps me feel grounded in where my business is at. I love the idea of moving with nature’s ebb and flow and feeling more connected to the year as it unfolds.

…A little reminiscing, but it’s something our ancestors did so naturally for thousands of years, but nowadays we’re often swept up in a constant hustle and bustle… and I think we all feel that!

Here’s 4 ways you can bring that lovely spring energy into your marketing:

Prepare for sowing

Can I let you in on a little secret… I love thinking about my spring marketing as if it were a charming cottage garden (can’t forget about the picket fence too!), and where the small seeds I plant now can grow into the most beautiful and colourful blooms throughout the year and beyond.

Just like a garden, at the start of spring, I always feel encouraged to clear out the parts of my little business that are no longer serving me, while pruning what needs attention in order to grow and expand. And I especially love that by nurturing the foundations (the soil in my cottage garden) on which my business rests, it helps begin to bring my plans (those tiny seeds) to life in ways that feel wonderfully gentle and aligned.

Here’s a few small and simple ways you can begin preparing…

Take time to reflect on what matters most to you and your business. Ask yourself if the way you’re showing up still feels aligned. Refresh one small corner of your online space like updating a photo, tweaking some words, or bringing in a bit more of your branding. Nurture your connections like replying to a message, leaving a comment, or discovering someone new. Growth often wonderfully starts with the relationships we tend.

Make plans for growth

I love a good mind map! I love putting pen to paper (with added coloured gel pens too of course) to put all my thoughts and ideas down into one visually pleasing place. I actually like to think of this as my very own garden shed, where I pop in all my favourite marketing tools, some fertiliser for nurturing my content, a bucket for drawing up inspiration from my content well. You get the idea!

Begin to plan where you’d like your seeds to grow within your business. Think about where you’d love to sprinkle a little magic in your cottage garden. As you look ahead to the coming months, think about your own hopes, ideas, and direction for your marketing. What might that look like for you?

Begin to plant your seeds

Now that you’ve begun to prepare your garden, which is going to look so beautiful by the way, it’s time to begin planting those seeds ready for growth. But don’t forget to reflect on what each seed will need and where it’s going to be best planted.

A little tip is to reflect on which platforms you are currently using while thinking about who your community is and where they are. We have to be mindful of where we plant the seeds in our garden. Are they going to get the nourishment they need?

Let’s take germination as an example: it’s triggered by a combination of the correct temperature, light levels and moisture. When we get these spot on, new growth will begin to appear.

Set small achievable spring intentions

Nature’s intention is to grow, bloom and flourish in the months ahead, so let’s take some of this incredible energy into our own intentions. This is a chance to bring our thoughts into sync with this natural rhythm. Isn’t it wonderful how nature doesn’t rush, and instead blooms in its own perfect timing?

This spring, take a moment to think about what you would like to tend and nurture for growth. What would you like your marketing to look and feel like for the rest of the year?

Start with a few small, simple steps you can grow towards. These steps give you a way to check in on the seeds you have already planted, while also holding space for what you hope to see grow in the months ahead.
